Manchester, New Hampshire—Today the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy released new research that throws cold water on the claim that making New Hampshire’s popular education freedom accounts (EFAs) universally available would upend the state budget.
Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) Deputy State Director Sarah Scott issued the following statement after the publication of the new report:
“New research from the Bartlett Center shows that critics have greatly exaggerated the cost of expanding New Hampshire’s EFA program. Far from the unrealistic and sensationalized $100 million per year that Reaching Higher and others have claimed, estimates for expanding school choice to every student in NH would cost less than $20 million over a two-year period. Universal school choice is affordable and within reach in New Hampshire.
“With this new information, lawmakers can confidently advance universal school choice legislation. AFP-NH and its activists look forward to educating lawmakers about the true cost of universal EFA’s and working with policy champions to ensure every Granite State student has access to the education they need to succeed.”
