Largest Grassroots Group in Michigan Calls out Governor’s Runaway Spending

Lansing, Michigan—This evening, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer gave her State of the State Address. In her address, Michigan’s governor outlined her extensive plan to raise taxes on gasoline and businesses.

Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) State Director Tim Golding issued the following statement after the governor’s address:

“It’s not enough that Governor Whitmer blew through a $9 billion surplus in the state budget. She adds insult to injury by proposing an increase on gas taxes and businesses. And that’s after increasing income taxes last year.

“The Governor spends money like it doesn’t come out of the pockets of hardworking Michiganders. After wasting $8 million on merely studying highway funding, Michigan’s roads are no closer to being fixed.

“Between Governor Whitmer’s fiscal malfeasance and the damage still being felt by ‘Bidenomics’, Michiganders continue to face economic hardship. Unfortunately, it will take new leadership to correct course. AFP-MI will continue to connect Michiganders to the Democrat-backed policies that make life more expensive—starting with the wish list included in the Governor’s address today.”
