Peach State Showing Promise on Taxes, Health Care

Atlanta, Georgia—Today Georgia Governor Brian Kemp gave his annual state of the state address. In his speech, he outlined encouraging gains the Peach State is making in lowering taxes, making smart decisions on health care policy, and making life more affordable for job creators and families.

Americans for Prosperity-Georgia (AFP-GA) State Director Tony West issued the following statement praising the Governor’s address:

“Georgia is showing so much promise as it becomes more competitive. Our taxes continue to go down, and Governor Kemp deserves credit for his proposal to continue to bring down our income tax to 5.19%, saving Georgians billions over the next ten years.

“However, Georgians are paying an invisible tax because unreasonable and longstanding legal practices have increased the cost of insurance in the state. We applaud the Governor’s efforts to address this growing problem that increases costs for families and businesses.

“Lastly, we are encouraged that despite relentless pressure, the Governor has stood strong and resisted calls to expand Medicaid. We are excited to continue to partner with the Governor to advance solutions-based policies that will make life more affordable while right-sizing government.”
