ICYMI: AFP-TN Celebrates Successful Legislative Session, Awards Lewis and Maury County Policy Champions

Nashville, TN – On Saturday, Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee (AFP-TN) held a legislative session wrap-up event where they celebrated the passage of many key bills, including the long-fought Education Freedom Act becoming state law.

AFP-TN presented ‘Education Freedom Fighter’ awards to Lewis and Maury County policy champions for their work to create educational opportunity for the Volunteer State: Sen. Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald) and Rep. Scott Cepicky (R-Culleoka).

Tori Venable, AFP-TN State Director, gave the following statement:

“During the 2025 legislative session, 114th General Assembly passed historic legislation that will benefit all Tennessee families. We applaud our policy champions, Sen. Hensley and Rep. Cepicky, for their work to provide Tennessee kids with the best educational opportunities to fit their individual needs.

“We’re proud of the work that AFP, our volunteers, and lawmakers accomplished together to make our state—the great state of Tennessee—one of the best in the nation. Hundreds of volunteers joined us as citizen lobbyists to fight for school choice, empowering parents to make educational decisions for their children. Our work this year focused on leaving a legacy to protect the rights of Tennesseans to enshrine less government, lower taxes, and more freedom – the Volunteer Way.”

Rep. Scott Cepicky received the ‘Education Freedom Fighter’ award and gave the following statement:

“It is an honor to partner with Americans for Prosperity. They are a champion for conservative values in Tennessee. I was honored to play a part in passing school choice. We couldn’t have done it without the grassroots support of Tennessee and Americans for Prosperity.”

Sen. Joey Hensley received the ‘Education Freedom Fighter’ award and gave the following statement:

“I appreciate AFP-TN and everything they stand for, especially on school choice. I believe we should give our children every opportunity in Tennessee to succeed, and that’s what we’ve done with these Education Freedom Scholarships.”
