ICYMI: AFP-NH and Local Lawmakers Discuss Policies Hitting Granite State Families’ Wallets

Goffstown, NH — On Wednesday, Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH), State Rep. Ross Berry, and Rep. Joe Alexander highlighted a mix of outdated laws and policies that are driving up costs for Granite Staters. While some laws sound like jokes, such as bans on hunting with ferrets, restrictions on collecting seaweed at night, or regulations dictating the size of holes in sugar shakers, others carry serious consequences for family budgets.

AFP-NH Deputy State Director Sarah Scott released the following statement:

On April Fools’ Day, we highlighted policies that might sound like a joke, but for New Hampshire families, the impact is no laughing matter. Proposals like a state income tax and burdensome measures such as the battery and paint taxes would make our state less affordable and threaten the New Hampshire Advantage.

Granite Staters don’t need more costly, complicated programs or hidden taxes. That’s why AFP-NH is supporting a constitutional amendment to permanently ban an income tax and policies that will rein in local spending. Because policies that protect taxpayers’ wallets and promote long-term economic growth are the foundation of New Hampshire’s success.
