Arlington, VA — Americans for Prosperity Managing Director Kent Strang issued the following statement in response to Senator Bernie Sanders’ recent proposal to impose a moratorium on the construction of data centers supporting artificial intelligence development:
“Once again—Bernie Sanders is wrong. He’d rather strangle innovation with red tape than seize the opportunity for America to lead the next technological revolution. America is about innovation and growth. While Democrats like Bernie push for moratoriums, China and other competitors will eat our lunch. We must unleash AI, not stifle it.

Americans for Prosperity is driving permitting reform because it’s the key to preserving the American Dream and ensuring our nation remains the world’s economic powerhouse. By removing outdated barriers, we can continue building the strongest economy in the world, driving AI innovation and prosperity for generations to come.”
Strang emphasized that unleashing AI is already driving increased investment and job creation across the country. Data centers not only bring significant capital investment to the communities where they are located, but also strengthen the energy sector and create thousands of high-paying jobs.
America leads in innovation, and maintaining that leadership is critical to protecting and growing American jobs. Restricting development now would jeopardize our competitive edge and risk ceding technological leadership to foreign adversaries.
