Washington, D.C. — Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today called out Democrat leadership for once again attempting to rebrand themselves as champions of “affordability” despite a record of policies that have driven costs higher for American families and made health care less accessible.
“Senate Democrats want to make 2026 the affordability election.”
After years of policies that helped push inflation to 40-year highs, voting for the largest tax hike in American history, and continuing to call for trillions in new spending, Senate Democrat leaders are now attempting to campaign on affordability—particularly in health care. AFP says voters aren’t buying it.
“Democrats created this affordability crisis, and their answer is more of the same policies that put families in a bind in the first place,” said AFP Managing Director Kent Strang. “They pushed inflation to historic highs, raised taxes, and expanded government spending—then act surprised when Americans are still feeling the impact.”
AFP noted that years of subsidy-driven health care policy have failed to lower underlying costs, leaving families facing higher premiums, higher deductibles, and fewer choices—benefiting only big insurance companies.
In contrast, AFP pointed to commonsense, patient-first reforms—such as proposals championed by President Trump to directly fund patients’ Health Savings Accounts—as a real path toward affordability. Empowering patients, rather than Washington bureaucrats, gives families more control over their care and encourages competition that lowers costs.
“Taxpayer-funded subsidies haven’t made health care affordable—they’ve masked failed government-run health care that has made costs skyrocket,” Strang added.
“Americans deserve solutions that put them in charge of their own health care dollars, not policies that drive up costs and are riddled with waste, fraud, and abuse.”
Americans for Prosperity will continue to remind voters of the consequences of failed affordability policies and advocate for market-driven, patient-centered reforms that expand choice, increase transparency, and deliver real, lasting relief for American families.
Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another. AFP recruits and unites activists in all 50 states behind a common goal of advancing policies that will help people improve their lives. For more information, visit www.AmericansForProsperity.org
