CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia released their 2025 Legislative Scorecard today. Since 2018, the organization has been tracking lawmaker’s votes on some of the most important policy decisions of each regular legislative session.

As the state’s premier grassroots advocacy group, each year the organization’s staff and activists from across the Mountain State advocate for proven policy solutions that will help make West Virginia a better place to live, work, and raise a family. The group releases its annual scorecard so that Mountaineers can leverage the information to hold their lawmakers accountable for their stances on critical issues facing West Virginia.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman released the following statement: “From cutting needless red tape holding people back from the workforce and fundamentally reforming government, to expanding educational freedom and ushering in more reliable, affordable energy for families, we’ve united with principled policy champions to bring in a wave of reforms that will help unleash the American Dream in West Virginia.”

The organization also announced an accountability campaign comprised of paid media and its signature grassroots outreach intended to thank principled policy champions for their courage to enact bold reforms and to hold the politicians who cater to the failed status quo accountable for their poor decisions in Charleston.

“Now is not the time to rest on our laurels. Even more work must be done to help West Virginia reach its full potential as we compete to win the economic backyard brawl with all the states that we touch. To get there, we must ensure that citizens have a robust understanding of where their lawmakers stood—for good or ill—on policies that are integral to our state’s future success,” said Huffman.

The campaign will feature a sharp focus on holding lawmakers who opposed the repeal of Certificate of Need (CON) laws to account.

“Put simply, CON laws are government-run health care that make it legal for Hospital CEOs to collude with unelected bureaucrats to veto new or expanded medical services in your community, keeping competition out at the expense of more quality health care services for every West Virginian. All the data shows that CON laws decrease access, lower quality, and increase the cost of health care. That’s why President Trump, along with the last seven presidential administrations, have called on states to repeal their CON laws,” said Huffman. “We’re going to make certain West Virginians know precisely which lawmakers put CEO’s profits over better health care for our families.”
