SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-UT) released the following statement in response to Governor Spencer Cox’s State of the State Address and outlined its priorities for the 2026 legislative session.

Kevin Greene, AFP-UT state director gave the following statement:

“As we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary, Governor Cox’s focus on homeownership as a gateway to the American Dream rings true to many Utah families. It’s the number one issue we hear from people at their doors.

“Now is the time to lean into the governor’s message and priorities of zoning reform, streamlining permitting, supporting infrastructure, and encouraging innovation. Let’s get government out of the way and unleash the potential of the people of our great state.”

As the legislative session begins, AFP-UT is urging lawmakers to take up key reforms that will expand opportunity and prosperity in the Beehive State. AFP-UT’s top legislative priorities for the 2026 legislative session include:

  • Unleashing the free market: Cutting taxes and reducing state spending to remain competitive with neighboring states and encourage investment in Utah. Ending taxpayer funded handouts to large tech companies and sports arenas.
  • Choice in education: Address the legal issues threatening the Utah Fits All scholarship then expand it to serve all Utah students.
  • Solving Utah’s housing crisis: Reduce red-tape and arbitrary regulations that delay the construction process and impose unnecessary costs on consumers. Eliminate taxpayer subsidies for downpayment assistance that drive prices up and artificially decrease housing supply.
