AFP to Lawmakers: Stop the Income Tax Proposal or Risk Undermining Washington’s Economic Future
Olympia, WA — Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) testified before the House Finance Committee in opposition to SB 6346. The proposed legislation would impose a 9.9 percent income tax on high earners. More than 100,000 Washingtonians have signed on in opposition to the legislation, the highest total recorded in the Legislature’s online system.

In addition to delivering testimony, AFP joined Washingtonians outside the capital to voice strong opposition to the proposal. An LED billboard truck also circled the capital campus throughout the day, amplifying the message and urging lawmakers to reject the measure.

AFP Western Region Director Heather Andrews said:
“Today, Washingtonians came together to voice their opposition to SB 6346. Despite historic public input and concern across the state about this proposal, lawmakers are continuing to push it forward.
“Instead of disregarding the voices of Washingtonians, lawmakers should focus on finding solutions that rein in spending, lower costs for working families, and improve the state’s economic competitiveness. Lawmakers have a choice: either to listen to Washingtonians and protect the state’s economic future or enact a policy that will accelerate job loss, drive out investment, and weaken Washington’s long-term prosperity.”
Deputy Western Region Director Zak Kubin said during his testimony:
“Lawmakers should take our concerns more seriously. At the end of the day, public policy should be judged not by its intentions but by its results. Relying on a mobile and volatile tax base to fund essential services is risky. If capital leaves or a recession hits, the shortfall won’t disappear—it will fall on the very programs supporters of this bill are trying to support.“
