ICYMI: AFP-MI Calls Out Court Decision Denying Tax Relief to Michiganders

Lansing, Michigan—In late December, a Michigan Court of Claims ruled that income tax relief passed by the Michigan legislature applied only to 2023 income taxes, despite the intent of the legislature to make the tax relief permanent.

Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) State Director Annie Patnaude issued a statement after the decision:

“Judge Gleicher’s decision denies Michiganders necessary tax relief as the cost of living continues to go up. The provisions of this income tax relief were designed to ensure that Lansing lives within its means, especially when the state’s revenue grows faster than the rate of inflation. This is not only sound tax policy to keep government accountable, it’s also good stewardship of tax dollars and a recognition that all of the government’s money comes from hardworking Michiganders. They deserve to keep more of their paychecks.

“We are confident that upon appeal, the court will understand the legislature’s intent and give Michigan the tax relief it so sorely needs.”
