As we head into the new year, now the real work begins to improve people’s lives. Itis up to We the People to step up and hold our elected officials accountable to the promises they made on the campaign trail. Americans for Prosperity (AFP) volunteers are ready to seize the opportunity to advance limited government principles and empower millions to pursue their American Dream.
AFP launched a new ad as part of a multi-million-dollar campaign called Reignite the American Dream, intended to spotlight the incredible work our grassroots activists do every day to expand freedom and opportunity in their communities.
The activists featured in the ad are worth getting to know.
Meet Sheri. She’s a Colorado resident who fought against an attempt from state legislators to deceive residents into voting for a property “tax cut” that would have menial benefits while eliminating refunds to Colorado taxpayers, costing them billions of dollars, otherwise known as Prop. H.H.. Sheri partnered with AFP and joined the ranks of their motivated activist base to raise awareness of the issue. Together, they knocked on thousands of doors and made tens of thousands of calls to warn residents across the state that the proposition would cost them much more money than they would save in the property tax cut. Sheri and AFP were victorious in defeating the legislation and saved Colorado residents over three billion dollars in one year alone.
Meet Lisa. She’s an Indiana native who watched aggressive labor unions coerce workers to join a union and pay union dues when they didn’t want to. Lisa partnered with AFP and supported their efforts to mobilize residents and form a coalition powerful enough to challenge the well-funded unions, counter their ruthless tactics, and persuade their political allies in the legislature. Lisa and AFP successfully passed right to work policies that protected workers from forced union participation. Right To Work brought a huge influx of manufacturing jobs back to Indiana.
Meet Caleb. He’s an Arkansas resident who witnessed the harm caused by forcing students to attend designated schools based on their zip codes. AFP had been advocating for an education system that enables students to seek schooling options based on their individual needs, and soon a partnership with Caleb was formed. AFP equipped him with the tools and skills needed to launch a powerful grassroots campaign that propelled the passage of the LEARNS Act — a bill that overhauled the current education system and provided funds for alternative schooling. The success wouldn’t have happened without an unwavering commitment from Caleb and other volunteers, hitting doors and organizing events.
Meet Al. He’s a business owner in North Carolina who has fought numerous crushing regulations in his state. Al partnered with local brewers and AFP to take on caps limiting the number of barrels small breweries could produce in his state and was soon engaging with community members and lawmakers face-to-face. AFP gave them a voice and legislators had to listen. As a result, the production cap was doubled, alleviating much of the former financial hurdles to a successful operation.
These stories prove real change is possible when people get off the sidelines and get involved in advocating for change in their communities. Regardless of the political landscape, AFP, backed by thousands of grassroots activists, is fighting to drive real solutions and keep the power in the hands of hard working Americans.
