Richmond, VA – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Virginia (AFP-VA) released a statement on their support for Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s decision to veto the latest minimum wage bill.
Matt Davison, AFP-VA State Director, released the following statement:
“We unequivocally agree with Gov. Youngkin’s decision to veto the latest legislation seeking to increase the minimum wage. It is clear that this legislation would have put more stress on small businesses, impeding their ability to make ends meet, and thus adversely affecting the economy.
“Raising the minimum wage is not the solution we need to fix our economy, as it is imperative that we give small businesses the opportunity to thrive. Strict mandates only raise costs on families, jeopardize jobs, and constrict economic competitiveness.
“We support lowering income taxes as a real help to hard working Virginians to allow them to keep more of their hard-earned money. We’re looking ahead to fighting a bad idea with a good idea, as the Governor fought for in his budget. Governor’s decision to veto this legislation is a great step towards the Commonwealth achieving the economic freedom and prosperity that will benefit all Virginians.”
