AFP-LA commends passage of universal ESA bill, launches GeauxSchoolChoice.com online resource

Baton Rouge, LA—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) applauded the House Education Committee for passing HB 745 which would create the LA GATOR Scholarship Program, a universal school choice savings account.

Education freedom and expanding opportunities for learners in Louisiana through universal education savings accounts (ESAs) has been a top priority of AFP-LA. The lead sponsor of HB 745, State Representative Julie Emerson (HD-39), recently joined AFP-LA during its Day at the Capitol with dozens of grassroots activists, parents, elected officials, and Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley.

AFP-LA State Director, Scott Simon, released the following statement:

“Louisiana is currently ranked 46th in the nation for education but with the continued support for universal ESAs, we are on the right track to create access to education opportunities that fit individual learners needs and keep talent in our great state.

“AFP-LA is encouraged by today’s House action following last week’s Senate committee vote; we are another step closer to becoming the 12th state to pass universal school choice and break the barriers some families face when making choices for their child’s education.”

Background

Simon testified in support of universal ESAs before the House and Senate committees, outlining AFP-LA’s belief that education should not be a one-size-fits-all model. AFP-LA recently announced its Geaux School Choice campaign to create awareness for ESAs through digital ads, activating its strong grassroots base to take a message of education freedom to voters door-to-door and most recently, the launch of GeauxSchoolChoice.com as a leading resource for Louisiana residents.
