Americans for Prosperity Condemns UAW Strike Expansion Announcement
Lansing, MI and Columbus, OH— As workers at 38 spare parts distribution centers walked off the job at noon today, more Michigan and Ohio workers are finding themselves at the center of a heated conversation around skyrocketing inflation, the shaky post-COVID economy, and the future of American manufacturing.
As the premier grassroots policy organizations in the Midwest, Americans for Prosperity – Michigan (AFP-MI) and Americans for Prosperity – Ohio (AFP-OH) have long advocated for policies that benefit the middle class and provide workers with the freedom to decide what is in their best interest, rather than being manipulated by union decisions.
“Today’s strike announcement proves that union bosses are emboldened following President Biden’s ‘Bidenomics’ labor agenda, favoring union leader preferences over worker choice and we saw that clearly in Michigan with the Right to Work repeal. As membership continues to drag, they are weaponizing strike tactics that are putting American economic dominance in jeopardy,” AFP-MI State Director Annie Patnaude and AFP-OH State Director Donovan O’Neil said in a joint statement.
“Workers are right to be concerned about how President Biden’s top-down mandates and subsidies on EVs are affecting the future of the American auto industry,” Patnaude said. “Union bosses and crony automakers have sold out workers by backing the Biden Administration’s command and control plan for the American auto industry.”
“Between Bidenomics’ harmful impacts and Sherrod Brown’s union boss cronies choosing to freeze American manufacturing, Ohio and Michigan workers are caught in the middle,” O’Neil added. “Union bosses and Bidenomics are further jeopardizing our economy’s shaky post-COVID recovery.”
