Americans for Prosperity applauds Governor Mike Parson for Expanding Telehealth

Mar 19, 2020 by AFP

SPRINGFIELD, MO Americans for Prosperity – Missouri (AFP-MO) today applauded Governor Mike Parson’s signing of Executive Order 20-04. This order removes the barrier doctors faced in providing telehealth to new patients and authorizes executive agencies to waive or suspend specific regulations and statutes which interfere with COVID-19 responses.

“We’re thankful Governor Parson has taken the first step to help Missourians receive the care they need during this pandemic,” said State Director Jeremy Cady. “Moving forward, we urge the Governor and his Administration to remove further burdens to increase access to quality health care for our residents now and in the future.”

Americans for Prosperity released a memo this week identifying steps states can take today to expand access to critical healthcare services for those who need it:

  • Lift regulations to allow health care providers to work in the states with greatest need, regardless of the state in which they are licensed. This will free medical professionals to fully provide the services they are trained to provide.
  • Expand access to digital tools and telehealth systems that can help reduce the burden on the health system, improve access to health care, and increase social distancing.
  • Eliminate government restrictions on the number of hospital beds, CT scanners, or other health services. Certificate of need mandates put unnecessary caps on these essential health care needs.
  • Make information about the virus and policymakers’ decisions on combatting it accessible to the public. The open flow of information will allow stakeholders to enact appropriate measures and citizens to make informed decisions to protect public health.
