AFP Urges Lawmakers to Focus on Tax Reform, Oppose Consumption Tax Constitutional Amendment

Feb 12, 2020 by AFP

LINCOLN, NE – Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska (AFP-NE) today urged the Revenue committee to focus on comprehensive tax reform and oppose LR 300CA, a constitutional amendment that would abolish all taxes and replace them with a consumption tax.

Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska State Director Jessica Shelburn issued the following statement:

“Our families, businesses, ranchers, and farmers need tax reform, but this bill presents several unknowns that take us further away from sound fiscal policy. Although there are good components that eliminate most corporate welfare, the bill fails to clarify how some local entities, like school districts, will be funded. The bill also fails to lay out how high the consumption tax would have to be to fund over $4 billion that’s needed for state government operations. We urge lawmakers to enact real tax reform that empowers taxpayers to have a say in how their tax dollars are being spent and creates opportunity for every Nebraskan.”
