Grassroots group praises selection of Speaker Bonnen, outlines legislative priorities

AUSTIN, Texas – As Texas’ 86th legislative session begins, Americans for Prosperity-Texas praised the selection of Representative Dennis Bonnen as Speaker of the House. The grassroots group looks forward to working with Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Speaker Bonnen, and other policy champions to tackle Texas’ toughest issues this session.

“The Governor, Lt. Governor, and Representative Bonnen each have a track record of leadership on reforms and policies that are going to enable every Texan to achieve their potential. We’re ready to work with them, as well as other champions in the Legislature, to get policies over the finish line that will improve people’s lives,” said Americans for Prosperity-Texas State Director Jerome Greener. “Our grassroots community is positioned to encourage lawmakers to put people over politics and continue to make Texas the best state to live, work and raise a family.”

Through grassroots outreach, AFP-Texas is driving long-term solutions to the Lone Star state’s toughest challenges. In addition to issues such as lowering Texans’ taxes, the group will also marshal its resources to build on criminal justice reform legislation that is smart on crime and soft on taxpayers, as well as work to increase educational opportunity for all Texas families.
