AFP Tells “Big 4” to Curtail Runaway Spending, Urges Against Busting Budget Caps

May 22, 2019 by AFP

ARLINGTON, VA – Amid reporting that congressional leaders are close to making a deal to raise budget caps, Americans for Prosperity Vice President of Economic Opportunity Russ Latino issued the following statement:

“A deliberate and thoughtful deal that puts us on a better fiscal trajectory is far better than a quick and dirty deal that puts us further into debt. Congressional leaders must be willing to do the hard work it takes to get discretionary spending under control and take serious steps to keep it that way. Americans need Washington to come together on a number of important issues – rubber stamping massive increases in spending isn’t one of them.”

Yesterday, AFP sent a letter to the top four congressional leaders urging them to work together to rein in runaway spending with sensible limits that tie discretionary spending growth to a combination of inflation and population increases, and end the broken system of budgeting-by-crisis.
