Keystone State grassroots group thanks Sen. Toomey and Rep. Kelly, Admonishes Sen. Casey for opposing the “American Pay Raise”

HARRISBURG, PA. – Americans for Prosperity recently launched “American Pay Raise,” a nationwide, grassroots campaign to thank lawmakers who supported the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, hold lawmakers accountable who opposed it, and urge Congress to protect the benefits Americans are already experiencing.

The first phase of American Pay Raise comprises of a six-figure digital ad buy thanking tax reform champions like Senator Pat Toomey and Congressman Mike Kelly and urging opponents like Senator Bob Casey to support policies like tax reform that helps Americans enjoy greater economic opportunity and prosperity. The ads launched March 19 and will run through Tax Day, April 17.

AFP-Pennsylvania State Director Beth Anne Mumford issued the following statement:

“Tax reform was the much-needed spark we needed to unleash the promise of our economy, and businesses and families throughout the Keystone State are already reaping the benefits. The American Pay Raise puts Pennsylvanians on the path for a better and brighter future with lower tax rates, higher wages, and more jobs,” said AFP-PA Pennsylvania State Director Beth Anne Mumford. “Although tax reform was a huge victory for Pennsylvanian families and businesses, the fight is far from over. Congress must protect the American Pay Raise from lawmakers who want to dismantle the reforms and return to the status quo. We thank Sen. Toomey and Rep. Kelly for helping to drive tax reform through Congress, but are disappointed Sen. Casey tried to stand in the way of helping Pennsylvanians keep more of their hard-earned money.”

Background:

The American Pay Raise is featuring a call for Congress to protect tax reform and preserve its benefits by:

  • Opposing special-interest tax breaks.
  • Opposing new taxes, such as a proposed 25-cents-per-gallon federal gas tax increase.
  • Making permanent all tax cuts that are due to expire in 2025.
  • Eliminating unnecessary regulations that slow economic growth and reduce opportunities and jobs.

The grassroots group is also debuting AmericanPayRaise.com, which features an interactive map depicting how businesses across the country are investing in workers and communities as a result of the law.

AFP made tax reform a top federal priority in 2017 and engaged its nationwide grassroots infrastructure in support of a positive vision to unrig the economy.

In January, AFP announced that, together with its grassroots partners, it would spend up to $20 million to promote the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and ways to build on progress made through this once-in-a-generation reform. The American Pay Raise is a significant part of that effort.
