Aug 26, 2022 by AFP

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) State Director John Tidwell today issued the following statement on Ryan Walters’ win in Tuesday’s Republican runoff election for Superintendent of for Public Education.

“Ryan Walters’ victory is a victory for Oklahoma parents and guardians seeking a better education for their children. Oklahoma needs education leaders who will put kids first; someone who wakes up every day worrying about their wellbeing and how best to provide them with the skills and knowledge they’ll need for successful and meaningful lives.

“Improving education is not something we can put off for another day. It needs to happen now, and I’m confident Ryan Walters will get to work upon his election with the sense of urgency that Oklahoma children deserve.”

AFP-OK endorsed Walters’ primary election campaign and put the organization’s activists and resources to work educating and turning out voters. During the primary election, the organization made thousands of direct voter contacts and telephone calls and sent out 1.8 million pieces of mail in support of Walters’ election.

Tidwell said that the organization will continue its work to ensure that Walters is elected in November and “parents and children have an education leader they can count on.”
