AFP: Disappointed in Legislative Filibuster of Budget Bill

Grassroots group demands action to reduce spending in state budget

LINCOLN, Nebr.–Americans for Prosperity–Nebraska (AFP-NE) on Wednesday responded to the unfortunate filibuster of the mainline budget bill.

“The Legislature did hardworking Nebraskans a great disservice today,” said AFP-NE State Director Jessica Shelburn. “We cannot remember a time when legislators successfully filibustered the mainline budget in Nebraska. By effectively filibustering the mainline budget adjustment, 18 senators have denied Cornhuskers the tax relief they deserve and seek.”

“Lawmakers took the easy way out, opting to pass the buck, literally, onto the taxpayer and have made our Unicameral Legislature as political and ineffective as Washington, D.C.,” added Shelburn. “Nebraskans need their representatives to make tough decisions and finally act to get state spending under control. Our hope is it’s not too late for legislators to re-evaluate their priorities before this session ends.”
