AFP Applauds House Lawmakers for Supporting Resolution Expressing Economic Harms of Carbon Tax

Jul 19, 2018 by AFP

Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity today commended House lawmakers for supporting a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy. In a letter sent to representatives Wednesday, AFP announced it will score H.Con.Res.119 on its congressional scorecard and called on members to vote “YES” on the resolution that lets voters know whether their elected representatives support the implementation of a highly regressive and harmful economy-wide tax.

Thursday’s vote comes ahead of a tax-hike bill that is expected to be introduced Monday by Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fl.). The so-called “Market Choice Act” seeks to implement a carbon tax combined with a border adjustment tax, which would place an enormous new burden on American businesses and families in the form of increased prices on utilities, gasolines, and everyday goods and services.

AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement:

“The tax and regulatory relief championed by this Congress is reviving communities and supporting hardworking families across the country. The mere thought of a carbon tax is tantamount to throwing a wet blanket on an economy ignited by tax reform. We’re encouraged by the resolution today and urge Congress to protect American consumers, workers and businesses from any form of a highly regressive and harmful economy-wide tax that would disproportionately hurt the least fortunate.”
