AFP-CO Urges PUC to Reject Xcel’s 8th Rate Increase in 3 Years

Proposed rate increases would add $135/year to the average customer’s bill

DENVER, CO — Americans for Prosperity-Colorado (AFP-CO) is calling on the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to reject Xcel Energy’s pending electric and natural gas rate hikes. AFP is urging Coloradans to tell the Commission not to raise rates, especially while families are already paying more for groceries, housing, and other everyday necessities.

For an average Xcel customer who uses both electricity and natural gas, this rate increase would mean roughly $11 more per month, or about $135 more per year. This newest rate hike is the eighth increase in three years, a total increase of about 22%.

But the PUC’s final decision is forthcoming — and Coloradans need to speak out against these rate increases to shape the outcome. AFP-CO is encouraging Colorado residents to contact the PUC directly and register their opposition to the rate increases HERE.

AFP-CO Deputy State Director Brittany Trujillo issued the following statement:

“Coloradans are once again faced with yet another rate increase from Xcel Energy while ratepayers struggle to afford basic necessities. The Public Utilities Commission should reject this rate increase proposal and stand with ratepayers.

“Colorado is becoming unaffordable for too many families and another rate increase will only make things worse. Both Xcel Energy and the Public Utilities Commission need to hear loud and clear from ratepayers: No more rate increases!”
