AFP-Ohio Announces Five New House Primary Endorsements and Statewide Canvassing Effort

Americans for Prosperity Press Release

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Ohio (AFP-OH) announced its endorsement for five additional candidates for the state House of Representatives ahead of the primary election on May 5 and a canvassing blitz across their districts as part of AFP’s “National Day of Action.”

The new endorsements represent AFP-OH’s ongoing efforts to support principled leaders for Ohio who champion free markets, limited government and policies that will build a stronger future for Ohio.

Tim Ross, deputy state director and political director for AFP-OH, gave the following statement:

“This strong team of principled conservatives—including dedicated incumbents and outstanding open-seat candidates—shares our commitment to limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty.

“These leaders will bring bold, common-sense solutions to Columbus and help drive the transformational change Ohio families deserve in the next General Assembly.”

Endorsed candidates

State Representative Brian Stewart (HD12) is a longtime partner of AFP-OH who has been a leading advocate for tax reductions and legislation to enhance veteran’s benefits. In 2025, Stewart received AFP-OH’s “Lantern for LIberty” award in recognition of his principled voting record.

State Representative Brian Lorenz (HD60) is a strong voice for fiscal responsibility, tax cuts and commonsense regulatory reform in the capital. Lorenz was a primary sponsor of Ohio’s REINS legislation that aimed to hold the state bureaucracy more accountable to taxpayers.

Ed Schimmel (HD44) has been a champion for education freedom by his support for open enrollment and a universal school choice program for Ohio students. As the mayor of Northwood, Schimmel knows the importance of phasing out the state income tax and reducing local spending to spur economic growth.

Christina Hagan (HD48), a former state legislator, is a proven policy champion who will be a strong ally on deregulation and permitting, especially in Ohio’s energy sector, in order to unleash the state’s potential.

Sean Hutson (HD66) is a strong first-time candidate who will be a key partner to AFP-OH in reducing Ohio’s regulatory burden and increasing transparency into the state’s bureaucracy. His limited government principles will help prevent the misuse of taxpayer dollars.
