Boise, ID — Americans for Prosperity (AFP) Western Regional Director Heather Andrews testified before the Idaho Senate Commerce and Human Resources Committee in support of HB-583, a bill focused on preventing the overregulation of short-term rental properties.
HB-583 would prohibit cities and counties from imposing regulations on short-term owners that aren’t related to public safety. The bill would ensure short-term rental properties are treated like other residential properties and remove barriers like business license requirements, creating standardized rules statewide and preventing a patchwork of rules from local bureaucracies.
“[The bill] prevents local governments from imposing excessive or discriminatory requirements such as owner-occupied mandates, arbitrary caps on rental days, burdensome parking rules, or conditional use permits that go beyond what is required of other residential properties,” Andrews said in her remarks. “Short-term rental owners should not be singled out for more restrictive treatment than similarly situated homeowners.”
