Olympia, WA — Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) released a statement regarding SB 6346, an income tax proposal mirrored by Gov. Ferguson’s push for a state-level income tax that would increase the financial burden on Washingtonians.
AFP Western Region Director Heather Andrews said:
“Gov. Ferguson’s idea to place heavy burdens on families and small businesses through higher income taxes will only risk pushing entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors to look elsewhere, weakening the economic engine that has driven decades of growth in Washington.
“Washington has a spending problem that will not be fixed by punishing hardworking small employers and families with a tax hike. We urge the Governor and state legislators to oppose any proposed income taxes that will harm the state’s economic climate and instead focus on policies that will keep businesses and investments in Washington while strengthening the state’s long-term economic future.”
For more than 50 years, Washingtonians have benefited from the state becoming a high-tech innovation hub where highly skilled individuals come to collaborate on cutting-edge, innovative products and services. This growth has been aided in large part by Washington’s long-standing absence of an income tax. SB 6346 threatens that shared prosperity by sending a signal to entrepreneurs and job-creators that Washington is no longer a state to grow and invest.
In 2025, Americans for Prosperity unveiled “Taxed Enough Washington”, a campaign highlighting Washington’s proposed burdensome taxes, such as state income tax and payroll taxes on employers.
