Boise, ID — Americans for Prosperity–Idaho (AFP-ID) hailed the Idaho Supreme Court’s decision today to uphold the state’s $50 million Parental Choice Tax Credit in a victory for education freedom in the Gem State.
The court rejected arguments from a coalition of opposition groups that claimed the tax credit violates the state’s constitution, affirming that parental empowerment and choice are essential for a healthy education system. The tax credit offers up to $5000 per eligible student enrolled in private schools, and thousands of families have filed applications with the Idaho Tax Commission since the program’s launch on January 15.
AFP Western Regional Director Heather Andrews issued the following statement:
“The Idaho Supreme Court drew a line in the sand today by confirming that every parent has the right to choose the best education for their child and that every child deserves an education that works for them. With this decision, the justices have ensured families have access to a wide range of schooling options instead of a one-size-fits-all learning model. AFP-Idaho is thrilled with the outcome of today’s case, and we will continue working with our partners in the state to carry the momentum forward for Idaho families.”
