Jackson, MS – Americans for Prosperity–Mississippi (AFP-MS) today responded to the Mississippi State Senate Education Committee’s failure to advance the Education Freedom Act (HB 2). This legislation would have expanded parental choice and established education savings accounts for families across the state.
The bill’s failure is a disappointment to thousands of parents and advocates seeking greater educational opportunity, but AFP-MS remains committed to meeting the growing demand for education freedom in Mississippi.
AFP-MS State Director Starla Brown released the following statement:
“Despite strong support and momentum throughout the session, the Education Freedom Act was voted down without deliberative efforts by members of the Senate Education Committee. While we are disappointed, the progress made should not be overlooked. Families across Mississippi continue to speak out clearly and passionately about the need for more education options, and many lawmakers in the House have stepped up to champion that cause. We remain firm in our support as we continue through the 2026 legislative session.
“AFP-MS remains committed to working with parents, educators, and legislators to ensure every child has access to an education that meets their unique needs. We will continue advocating for policies that put students first and empower families to make the best choices for their children.”
