ICYMI: AFP-Texas Volunteers Back on the Doors as Texas Delivers Historic Property Tax Relief

Jun 23, 2025 by AFP

Austin, TX – This past weekend, Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) volunteers returned to neighborhoods across the state, talking with Texans about the growing burden of rising property taxes. As local governments continue to overspend and pass the cost on to homeowners, Texans are calling for urgent and lasting reform. On Saturday alone, the organization knocked on over 2300 doors across Texas ranging from El Paso to Harlingen to Houston to DFW and East Texas.

The grassroots push comes on the heels of a major policy victory: Texas recently enacted a landmark property tax relief package that exempts the majority of seniors and disabled homeowners from school district property taxes. In total, the state has allocated $50 billion for property tax relief this session — representing 25% of the state’s budget. No other state in the nation has done more.

AFP-TX State Director Genevieve Collins released the following statement:

“This is what happens when government listens to the people. At the doors, we’re hearing the same thing over and over — families are being priced out of their homes by rising property taxes and reckless local spending. This historic relief package is a major win for Texans, especially seniors and those living on fixed incomes. But our work isn’t done.

“AFP-TX will continue mobilizing our grassroots network to demand more accountability, rein in local overspending, and deliver the kind of structural reform that protects taxpayers long into the future. Texans deserve the freedom to thrive — not be taxed out of their communities.”

AFP-TX will remain on the front lines of this fight, advocating for policies that put homeowners first and stop the unsustainable growth of property taxes at every level.
