Jessica Villarreal, a combat veteran, military spouse, and former Department of Veterans Affairs employee shares her experiences at the VA and why she had to leave. Working with veterans as a social worker was Jessica’s dream job. She wanted nothing more that to use her military experiences and education to give other veterans hope. But while working at the VA, Jessica’s dream quickly turned into a nightmare. She was bullied and harassed by fellow employees for choosing the good of her patients over meeting her numbers. When she couldn’t take the toxic work environment anymore, Jessica joined CVA to advocate for change and a VA that better serves veterans.
