Job-killing tax increases are not needed

Let's say this right up front. If the Legislature does nothing this year to raise fees or increase taxes, the state is still expected to take in an additional $2 billion over the current budget cycle. Two billion more without tax increases!

PUD to pay down $250 million in debt by 2017

Now free of its contractual obligations to pay for dam upgrades and projects by issuing bonds, the Chelan County PUD plans to pay down total debt by about $250 million over the next five years. Total debt would drop from the current $821 million to about $618 million in 2017. It topped $1 billion in 2009.
