Knoxville Mayoral Candidate, Rogero, Wrong to Brag about Federal ‘Green’ Grants

September 19, 2011

City of Knoxville Mayoral candidate Madeline Rogero is absolutely wrong to be touting federal ‘green’ grants, such as the Solar America Cities program, or meeting LEED certifications.

In a speech laying out her vision for Knoxville, Rogero pointedly adopts making the city ‘green’ as a core principle of a future administration. We have a number of problems with city government taking on such an expensive agenda.

Another Back-Room Deal: Obama’s Mortgage Refinancing “Stimulus” Plan

September 14, 2011

Facing a feeble economy, a falling approval rating, and a stubbornly-high unemployment rate, the pressure is on for President Obama to “do something” to get business activity back on track and Americans back to work. So in an address to the nation last Thursday, the President announced a new plan he thinks will do exactly that. Among the proposals, only a few have a chance of passing through the Republican-controlled House of Representatives: to conservative lawmakers, "stimulus" is a dirty word. But fortunately for the President he can proceed with one plan – a mortgage refinancing program that will cost taxpayers $600 million – entirely without Congressional approval.

AFP-Tennessee Applauds Rep. Blackburn for Defending Gibson Guitar from Obama Administration

September 13, 2011

The Obama Administration used federal marshals to raid a Nashville company, Gibson Guitars, in August; in an effort to find woods that were illegally imported from India. Tennesseans already know this story, what should make us all furious is the duplicitous way this raid was carried out, and the hypocrisy of Obama’s actions.

AFP-Tennessee commends Rep. Marsha Blackburn for taking Gibson Guitar’s defense to the nation’s capital; hosting a press conference with Speaker Boehner to deplore the federal government’s running roughshod over Gibson Guitar’s business, and civil rights.
