Ohio Senate Advances SB 2, Ohio House Advances HB 28
Columbus, OH – Americans for Prosperity – Ohio (AFP-OH) celebrates top priority bills for energy reform and tax reform advancing through the Ohio Senate and House, respectively. Yesterday, the Ohio Senate unanimously passed Sen. Reineke’s energy legislation, S.B. 2. This bill creates a more energy efficient Ohio by fostering transparency, competition, and energy affordability while eliminating burdensome regulations. The Ohio House also passed Reps. Mathews and Hall’s H.B. 28, a bill to eliminate the authority to levy replacement property tax levies.
These pieces of legislation for energy and tax reform are on track to pass through the necessary chambers and arrive on the governor’s desk in a just a few weeks.
AFP-OH State Director Donovan O’Neil released the following statement:
“We applaud yesterday’s passage of Senate Bill 2 and House Bill 28; both are major victories for Ohio’s energy consumers and taxpayers. By eliminating costly subsidies like those for the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation and promoting market competition through transparent pricing and procurement, lawmakers are putting Ohioans first.
“S.B. 2 checks the boxes on multiple key principles outlined in our Better Energy Policy for Ohio Study, including affordability, transparency, and market-driven solutions. Senate Bill 2 ends government distortions, empowers self-generation, and ensures that energy decisions are made for the benefit of ratepayers—not special interests.
“H.B. 28 helps to move towards the overall goal of streamlining Ohio‘s tax system and making it more reliant on less-volatile sources of revenue to ensure adequate revenue exists to cover necessary expenditures while minimizing economic disruption.
“We applaud Senator Reineke and the Ohio Senate for their leadership and urge the House to advance S.B. 2 without delay. We also applaud Representatives Mathews and Hall and the Ohio House for passing H.B. 28, and we look forward to the advancement of this imperative tax policy that will impact millions of hardworking Ohioans.”
