ARLINGTON, VA— As reported by the New York Post, Americans for Prosperity’s latest “Americans Unscripted” report finds that Republicans hold a narrow advantage on affordability among swing voters in eight critical states. Affordability remains the top concern heading into the midterms, and AFP’s door-to-door conversations show what those voters want: personal freedom and free-market solutions, not more government.
Key takeaways:
- Republicans narrowly lead on costs. Asked which party is more likely to bring costs down, swing voters picked Republicans over Democrats, 44% to 39%. Another 16% said neither party.
- Big reach on the ground. AFP canvassers surveyed 24,089 swing voters in Alaska, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin. In August alone, AFP engaged about 98,320 people across those states.
- The vision gap is striking. Nearly 70% of those voters favor personal freedom and free-market solutions. Fewer than 10% want more government.
- Socialism is rising as a concern at the doors. AFP’s Ohio director Donovan O’Neil said voters began raising socialism more often in mid-August, and that the concern keeps growing.
AFP spokesperson Katelyn Bledsoe told the Post that “Republican candidates have a clear opening,” and that the task now is to contrast conservative solutions with the policies of a Democratic Party increasingly shaped by socialist ideas.
