Lansing, Michigan – Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity–Michigan (AFP-MI) held a Tax Day Dinner on the importance of renewing the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA)., Local restaurant owner, Randal Scot, shared his story about how his business thrived after Congress passed the original Trump Tax cuts in 2017.
“If the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is not extended it will cost my staff and it will cost my business. We need to make the tax cuts permanent so that I can continue to operate my business and so that my staff, who is like my family, can continue to adequately support their families,” said Randal Scot.
Through this event, local leaders raised awareness of what is at stake for families and businesses if Congress allows these tax cuts to expire at the end of the year. If Congress fails to renew the TCJA, Michigan families’ federal tax bill will increase by $2,054. The state could lose over 22,000 jobs.
This event was part of AFP’s national “Protect Prosperity” campaign, which is focused on urging Congress to protect families and businesses across the country from crippling tax hikes by renewing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act this year.
AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding released the following statement:
“Since 2017, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has delivered financial relief to Michigan families and driven economic growth across the state. Allowing these tax cuts to expire would damage the financial prosperity of hardworking Michiganders and put local businesses, that our economy relies upon, at risk.
AFP-MI will continue to advocate for Michigan families by working alongside local lawmakers and policy champions in Congress to ensure that passing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act remains a top priority this year.”
