ARLINGTON, VA— Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) State Director Genevieve Collins joined the Ruthless podcast on Thursday to discuss the importance of Texas’ new school choice program – the largest of its kind in American history.
Collins explained how AFP-TX’s grassroots activists built support for school choice in communities across the state to bridge the urban-rural divide over the policy, which passed into law earlier this month.
On the urban-rural divide over school choice in Texas:
“In Texas, it’s not R versus D, it’s urban versus rural. What we’ve seen over the past two years is a massive shift in the Overton window of how many Rural republicans are now open and willing and open to vote for school choice.”
What AFP-TX told families of students who wanted better education options:
“These new candidates that do support school choice, we’re going to help get them elected so that this dream you just conveyed to us is going to become a reality for your child. And anyone that’s going to get in the way – we will help forcibly early-retire.”
Why AFP-TX’s constant presence across Texas is their superpower:
“It’s not just a massive door and phone program. We’re in our communities, we’re doing events, we’re showing up and we support other groups. We constantly are networking and lifting up the voices of our community.”
“… it’s our job to connect people with policy.”
