ICYMI: AFP-NH Celebrates Pine Tree Riot Anniversary in Weare

Weare, NH — In case you missed it, Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) hosted a celebration of the 254th anniversary of the Pine Tree Riot, one of the earliest acts of resistance leading up to the American Revolution.

The Pine Tree Riot took place in 1772 in New Hampshire, when local settlers resisted British enforcement of the White Pine Acts, laws that reserved valuable pine trees for the Crown. It signaled growing colonial opposition years before the Revolution.

AFP-NH Regional Director Greg Moore said:

As we get ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we cannot tell that story without the Pine Tree Riot. Without that early act of resistance against the British in New Hampshire, there is no Boston Tea Party, no Declaration of Independence, and no American Revolution as we know it.

At its core, the Pine Tree Riot was a rejection of unjust taxation and government overreach, an early expression of the belief that taking from people without their consent is an abuse of power. That same spirit lives on today in New Hampshire’s commitment to ‘Live Free or Die,’ reflected in a model of governance that favors personal freedom, limited government, and one of the nation’s lowest tax burdens. AFP-NH continues to carry forward that legacy by advocating for policies that protect taxpayers, encourage opportunity, and preserve the freedoms that have long defined the Granite State.”

The event included remarks from the New Hampshire House Majority Leader Jason Osborne, Former Speaker of the House Bill O’Brien, Tom Thomson, AFP Honorary Chairman, and Greg Moore, AFP Regional Director.
