ICYMI: AFP, Jersey 1st Call Out May Day Tax Hike Push

Trenton, NJ—In case you missed it, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Jersey 1st criticized Assemblywoman Katie Brennan’s proposed “super-millionaires tax,” unveiled during May Day demonstrations in Jersey City, calling it the latest example of New Jersey lawmakers embracing failed economic policies that punish success, drive investment out of the state, and make life more expensive for everyone.

AFP Northeast Direct Ross Connolly and Rosemary Becchi, Jersey 1st President and Founder, said:

It is fitting that this latest tax hike scheme was rolled out on May Day, a date long associated with anti-capitalist movements and government-first economic thinking. Instead of focusing on policies that create opportunity and make New Jersey more affordable, some lawmakers used the occasion to double down on the same tax-and-spend agenda that has already driven families, entrepreneurs, and job creators out of the state.

New Jersey already has one of the highest tax burdens in the nation. Piling on new taxes under the false promise that they will only impact a small group of people ignores reality. We have seen how this has played out in other states that have implemented similar policies, discouraging investment, slowing job creation, and ultimately making it harder for working families to get ahead. If Trenton leaders are serious about helping New Jersey families and businesses, they should focus on lowering costs, reducing regulatory barriers, and creating an economic environment where all can grow and thrive.
