ICYMI: AFP Commends Gov. Mills’ Veto of Data Center Ban

Augusta, Maine — In case you missed it, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) commended Governor Mills for vetoing legislation that would have imposed a sweeping ban on data center development in Maine, a move that would have threatened jobs, investment, and the state’s economic competitiveness. The proposal would have frozen approvals of large‑scale data centers exceeding 20 megawatts through November 2027, making it the first moratorium of its kind in the country.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:

“Governor Mills made the right decision to veto the data center moratorium and stand up for Maine’s economic future. At a time when states across the country are competing for investment and innovation, this veto sends a strong signal that Maine is open for business and reinforces the state’s commitment to growth and innovation. AFP looks forward to working with policymakers to advance solutions that keep Maine on a path toward long-term economic opportunity.”

In case you missed it, Connolly penned a piece in the Wall Street Journal on Maine’s data center ban.
