ICYMI: AFP Blasts Hochul Data Center Ban as New York’s Loss

Arlington, VA — In case you missed it, Ross Connolly, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) Northeast Regional Director, appeared on WSYR Syracuse’s Morning News with Dave Allen to discuss Governor Kathy Hochul’s data center moratorium and its negative impact on New York’s economy and competitiveness with neighboring states.

Connolly argued that Hochul’s policy is turning away hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue and thousands of jobs, and pointed to New Jersey’s newly passed data center bill as a model for a smarter, more balanced regulatory approach.

Excerpts from the interview:

Really what Kathy Hochul is saying here is that New York is closed for business for the future economy and is saying no to hundreds of millions of dollars in central tax revenue and tens of thousands of jobs.”

“It’s not often that we say that the Garden State of New Jersey is doing things correctly, but she could have looked to Governor Sherrill and what was just passed in New Jersey as a way to protect taxpayers, make sure that taxpayer money isn’t going towards these massive companies. And you can protect ratepayers by making sure that energy rates can be stabilized, that these companies have to pay higher energy rates to ensure that rates won’t skyrocket during peak energy times. So creating a regulatory framework that is sensible protects the taxpayers of the state, but also you get the benefits of these data centers. She said no to all the benefits, and that’s just not a solution that’s going to work out for New Yorkers.”
