Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota Statement on Governor Tim Walz’s State of the State Address

Americans for Prosperity Press Release

St. Paul, MN – Today, following Governor Tim Walz’s annual State of the State address, Americans for Prosperity – Minnesota (AFP-MN), called out his government’s reckless fiscal policies and poor handling of the state economy.

AFP-MN State Director, Jake Coleman, gave the following statement:

“Minnesotans are already suffering the consequences of Bidenomics, and Governor Walz’s speech tonight makes it clear that he plans to continue mirroring Washington’s inflation-inducing economic policies here in St. Paul.

“While we’re glad to see the governor approving a relatively scaled-back supplemental budget this year, it’s too little too late after blowing through Minnesota’s entire surplus in last year’s budget – the largest in state history – which saddles taxpayers with years of overpriced, deficit-inducing government programs.”

Background:

Governor Tim Walz signed the “One Minnesota Budget” into law in May 2023, that ballooned the state budget from $52 billion to $72 billion and eliminated a $17.5 billion budget surplus.

In response, AFP-MN launched the “One Expensive Minnesota” campaign, a yearlong, six-figure advertising campaign to hold lawmakers accountable for their wasteful spending and offer policy reforms and safeguards that will protect taxpayers from this type of reckless behavior in the future.
