Group Continues Holding Pro-CON Lawmakers Accountable

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Governor Patrick Morrisey yesterday announced a slate of appointments to the West Virginia Health Care Authority Board, which regulates the state’s certificate of need (CON) program. Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV), and activists across the state, applaud the governor’s choice of appointees and his commitment to repealing all CON laws due to the overwhelming data demonstrating that these laws significantly stifle access to more quality, affordable health care options. The grassroots group is continuing its robust campaign to hold lawmakers who failed to repeal CON laws accountable.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman released the following statement:

“Governor Morrisey’s appointments to the Health Care Authority Board are yet another outstanding demonstration of what bold, principled leadership looks like. Like Governor Morrisey, these individuals know that government-run health care monopolies created by anti-competitive CON laws are unequivocally destructive to West Virginians’ ability to access more affordable, better-quality options for care. We very much look forward to seeing this reimagined board operationalize that shared vision.”

AFP-WV Deputy State Director Tyler Henry released the following statement:

“While Governor Morrisey’s appointments are a step in the right direction, state lawmakers are still on the hook for answering the call from President Trump’s administration to repeal all CON laws. That’s why our activists and staff are working hard to hold lawmakers accountable who put padding Hospital CEOs’ paychecks over creating more quality health care options for their constituents by keeping CON laws in place. When it comes to CON repeal in the Mountain State, it is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when.’”
