RICHMOND, VA – Americans for Prosperity–Virginia (AFP–VA) today launched a new digital campaign to hold Senator Tim Kaine accountable for refusing to vote in favor of legislation that would reopen the government and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Virginia’s Democratic senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, are playing politics with national security by holding critical government funding hostage.
Tim Parrish, AFP-VA State Director, released the following statement:
“The people of Virginia sent Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to Washington with one fundamental expectation: keep America safe. They are failing that basic test. As TSA officers receive their first $0 paycheck and this shutdown drags on, the consequences of political dysfunction are becoming impossible to ignore.
“By refusing to support legislation that would end the government shutdown and restore full funding to the Department of Homeland Security, Senators Kaine and Warner are making a dangerous choice that leaves our borders vulnerable, our law enforcement stretched thin, and everyday Virginians exposed to real and growing threats.”
AFP is calling for an immediate end to the ongoing partial government shutdown amid rising security concerns across the United States and abroad, warning that continued dysfunction in Washington could prove catastrophic at a time when American families, businesses, and communities are relying on their government to keep them safe.
