SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Today, Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-UT) released “Prosperity Elevated,” its 2025 policy priority agenda, ahead of the state legislative session starting on January 21. AFP-UT will work with state lawmakers throughout the session to bring Utah to new heights by making vital reforms to improve the economy, education system, housing market, and border security.
AFP-UT State Director Kevin Greene gave the following statement:
“As Utah’s largest grassroots organization, we hear from residents across the state that they want a stronger economy, more schooling options for their children, affordable housing, and safer communities – and we plan to deliver.
“We look forward to working with our state lawmakers through our new Prosperity Elevated agenda so that Utah can become the best place to pursue the American Dream.”
The 2025 agenda focuses on four key policy areas:
An Economy That Works
- The legislature should reduce the state income tax and slash regulations to create a more friendly business environment.
- AFP-UT opposes government handouts to large businesses like professional sports teams that saddle taxpayers with years of debt.
- Utah must remove occupational licensing and other barriers that prevent entrepreneurs from bringing their services to the marketplace.
Housing Utah
- The government should act to cut red tape in the permitting process that increases the cost and time to build new homes.
- Utah should reduce the minimum lot size requirements mandated by local governments to allow for more efficient and cost-effective land use.
- We support the legalization of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) so that Utahns can maximize the living space on their property and grow the housing capacity in our state.
School Choice in Education
- With over 650,000 K-12 students in Utah, it’s time to pass universal school choice so that every student can access schools that meet their needs.
- AFP-UT supports expanding the Utah Fits All Scholarship program, which allows parents’ tax dollars to flow toward the educational needs of their choice.
Securing Utah
- Every state is now a border state, and Utah needs to upgrade its security infrastructure and encourage federal reforms of the asylum system to keep Utahns safe.
- We believe Utah should reduce regulations that punish legal immigrants and keep Utah businesses from sponsoring the workers they need.
