AFP Urges Congress to Pass the SPEED Act and Unleash Affordable American Energy

Nov 20, 2025 by AFP

Washington, D.C. – As the House Committee on Natural Resources meets to mark up the Simplifying Permitting for Energy and Economic Development (SPEED) Act, Americans for Prosperity is sounding the alarm about the importance of this critical reform, which will modernize America’s broken permitting system, accelerate energy infrastructure projects nationwide and help secure affordable, reliable energy for families and businesses.

For decades, outdated regulations and endless litigation have stalled projects that are essential to powering our economy and securing affordable, reliable energy for families and businesses. The SPEED Act provides a commonsense solution by:

  • Setting clear, enforceable timelines for federal reviews
  • Streamlining agency processes to eliminate unnecessary delays
  • Reducing frivolous litigation that drives up costs and blocks progress

Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer for Americans for Prosperity, said:

“The SPEED Act is a timely, commonsense solution to modernize a broken permitting system that has stalled critical energy and infrastructure projects for decades. By setting clear timelines, reducing litigation delays, and focusing federal resources where they matter most, this bill will help secure America’s energy future, strengthen our electric grid, create jobs and ensure that families and businesses have access to affordable, dependable energy. Washington must seize this bipartisan opportunity to unleash innovation and prosperity.”

Passing the SPEED Act will help expand America’s energy grid, create thousands of good-paying jobs, and ensure our nation remains competitive in a rapidly changing global economy. AFP urges lawmakers to act now and deliver the reforms Americans need.
