AFP: As World Cup Comes to New Jersey, Sherrill’s Record of Rising Costs Takes Center Stage

Trenton, NJ — Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is raising concerns as New Jersey prepares to host matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. What should be a moment to showcase American freedom and opportunity is instead overshadowed by Governor Sherrill’s temporary tax hikes, unaffordable transit plans, and government mismanagement.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:

“Fans from all over the world are traveling to the United States, expecting to experience the best of America, but New Jersey, under Governor Sherrill, is giving fans the very policies that they are trying to escape from in Europe. The governor continues to double down on failed deals and policies from her predecessor, leading to global visitors facing unaffordable transit, sales tax increases, and a crumbling state government struggling to meet the moment.

“The World Cup in the Garden State should be an opportunity to highlight American innovation and economic freedom. Unfortunately, New Jersey is showing what happens when government gets too big, too expensive, and too disconnected from the people it serves.”
