AFP-Texas Applauds Gov. Abbott for Prioritizing Property Tax Reform in Special Session

AUSTIN, TX – Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) applauded Texas Governor Greg Abbott for prioritizing property tax reform in the 30-day special legislative session beginning today.

Over the last several legislative sessions, the Texas legislature has delivered billions of dollars in property tax relief to Texas taxpayers. But years of runaway spending at the local level by political subdivisions has diluted amount of relief that taxpayers receive.

During the special session, AFP-TX will support legislation to further reduce the tax burden on hardworking Texans and limit the unchecked growth of local government spending.

AFP-TX Deputy State Director Raul Espinoza gave the following statement:

“Texas made enormous strides on property tax reform this year, but many Texans are still forced to pay for local governments’ reckless spending. We’re grateful for Gov. Abbott’s leadership on this critical issue and for putting it on the agenda for this special session.

“As the premier policy and grassroots organization in Texas, we look forward to engaging our grassroots army yet again to pass structural and significant property tax reform during the special session.”

Background:

Since June 1, AFP-TX grassroots activists have knocked on over 20,000 doors in communities across the state to highlight how local governments overspend and pass on costs to homeowners.
