Pierre, SD — Americans for Prosperity–South Dakota (AFP–SD) declared victory after the state’s REINS Act cleared the State Legislature in a final vote Tuesday evening, bringing more legislative oversight to the state’s regulatory processes.

The REINS Act successfully cleared both chambers in the State Legislature, sailing through the State House with only one “Nay” in the final vote. This followed AFP-SD’s tireless work to educate lawmakers and the public on the bill’s benefits. The bill now awaits Gov. Larry Rhoden’s signature.

AFP-SD State Director Jennifer Beving released the following statement:

“Every lawmaker who supported REINS deserves a huge round of applause for making this victory possible.

“AFP-South Dakota spent countless hours informing lawmakers why we need this bill to prevent unelected bureaucrats from impacting South Dakotans’ day-to-day livelihoods. We’re thrilled our leaders sent a strong message that South Dakota should stay a low-regulation state.

“While our work in Pierre is by no means finished, every South Dakotan should be proud. The REINS Act gives lawmakers the proper oversight authority to determine if certain regulations are necessary, and I look forward to seeing my fellow South Dakotans reap the benefits.”
