Charleston, SC—Tonight, as Congressman James Clyburn (SC-06) makes an appearance in the Lowcountry, Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) is pressing him to face a major issue that will impact his constituents’ bottom-line: President Trump’s highly successful Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that could expire this year if lawmakers don’t act.
Without the TCJA, the average family in South Carolina could see a $2,199 federal tax hike and more than 10,000 jobs could be at risk. Last week on Tax Day, AFP-SC utilized a mobile billboard truck to educate voters throughout Rep. Clyburn’s district about his opposition to the initial TCJA passage in 2017 as well as his recent vote against the budget resolution which paves the way for the tax cuts renewal.
AFP-SC State Director, Matt Humm, said:
“Pro-growth policies that keep taxes low and our economy strong should be supported across the aisle, yet Rep. Clyburn has taken the side of radicals in Washington who have treated taxpayers like a blank check. When will Rep. Clyburn side with South Carolinians who cannot afford to pay thousands more in taxes next year and renew the Trump tax cuts? At AFP-SC, we expect our elected officials to put our economic stability, not Washington’s wallet, first and tonight Rep. Clyburn should address the fiscal cliff that threatens prosperity for South Carolina.”
